Pondering an open
refrigerator's contents may be a familiar and comforting habit that's actually
raising your electric bill.
Up to 30 percent of a refrigerator's cold air can escape when you open it, so
don't open the refrigerator door more than necessary: decide what you want first, open the door and grab it, and then close your fridge tightly.
But when it's closing time, does your refrigerator door close all the way? A worn or leaky gasket (that rubber seal around the door) can be another culprit for cold air loss and reduced energy efficiency. Close the refrigerator door on a dollar, and if you can pull it out easily, the seal isn't tight enough. Replace the seals so your fridge stops losing cold air and you stop losing money!
