Hear a rustling in your attic? Birds, bats, and bees may find ideal targets in attic and
gable vents, rooftop whirlybirds, whole-house fan
exhaust ducts, and
even dryer vents.
These animals nest under the eaves of roofs or within exhaust ducts protruding from
the home, and they work fast—starlings can build a nest in a couple of days, according
to the Humane Society! The habitats of these animals can also be a sign of malfunctioning
equipment, clogged screens, or other problems. Once a year,
check eaves, attic and
dryer vents, and exhaust ducts, paying attention to where birds have nested before
or where they've left you, ah, presents. Remove any debris and fix equipment. And if
necessary, get commercial vent covers at a hardware store and get help removing animals
after inspection.
